05-day workshop on development of Handbook on 10 bagless days for classes 6th to 8th from 26th to 30th December 2022

                    The Department of Art and Vocational Education, State Council of Educational Reasearch and Trainings SCERT Kashmir division conducted 05 day's workshop on development of Handbook containing guidelines for 10 bagless days for classes 6th to 8th from 26th to 30th December 2022 which concludes successfully. The handbook contains activities related to different vocational trades. The program commenced on Monday 26th December 2022, in this workshop 12 resource persons Participated, out of 12 RPs 07 were from school education and 05 vocational instructors from SMAGRA Shiksha and 04 faculty members from Art and Vocational Education department 01 from Inclusive education department and 02 from SCERT language wing.

I liked the structure which was created for the workshop. I went through lots of great techniques and tools for improving the quality of my knowledge.

Successfully concluded 05 day Orientation program on Local Trades "Vocational Education" at SCERT-J&K Divisional Office Jammu from 13th to 17th December 2022

             In consonance with the very spirit of NEP 2020, the Department of Art and Vocational Education, Academic Unit-I, SCERT J&K Divisional Office, Jammu, under the able guidance of worthy Joint Director, H. R. Pakhroo, organized a 05-day orientation program on Local Trades /Vocational education. The raison d’tre and the very warp and woof of the workshop was an orientation on local trades underlying vocational education, as significantly enunciated by NEP 2020. The program was graced by professionals’ from ten Districts of the Jammu division which include, Jammu, Doda, Samba, Rajouri, Reasi, Kathua, Udampour, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Poonch. The program was inaugurated by Mr. H. R. Pakhroo Joint Director SCERT Divisional Office, Jammu, who comprehensively elaborated on vocational education with his words, “Vocational education is where head, heart, and hand works simultaneously. Mr. Kishore Kumar head of Academic Unit-I and Head Art and Vocational education department warmly welcomed all the dignitaries and participants. The first session of day one was delivered by Mr. Ravinder Jaral Assistant State coordinator SMAGRA Shiksha, vocational education. He outlined the broader contours of the significance of Vocational education and the role of different stakeholders and agencies in its implementation. In his session, Mr. Davinder Sharma Associate professor SKAUST Jammu intensively discussed the importance of Apiculture. He explained how the trade of apiculture is cost-effective and can ensure affluence.

               The next day, the first session was presided over by Mr. Arun Jalal subject matter specialist department of Agriculture division office RS. Pora Jammu on the topic of Vermicomposting. Vermicomposting provides employment opportunities as it protects the environment augmenting crop productivity when it is used as a fertilizer supplement and helping to maintain ecological balance. In the next session, Mr.  Sandeep Gupta district-level subject matter specialist in the department of Horticulture Jammu explained high-density food cultivation which enables profitable cropping, high regular yields, and improved form management practices leading to higher productivity. During Post lunch session Mr. Rajneesh Raina, Joint Director Trainings’ NIELIT J&K gave a very interesting and interactive session on the application of computers in day-to-day life and highlighted that technology will always be a great servant and a bad master.  

Day three began with a significant field visit, to Kissan Kander Goolpoli followed by Krishi Bhawan Directorate of Horticulture Talab Tillu Jammu. All the participants actively participated in acquiring theoretical as well as practical knowledge. Then Mr. A.S. Rene Joint Director of Inputs, Department of Agriculture, delivered a very informative and engaging session on protected vegetable cultivation.

               Day four started with a very informative session by Mr. Hoshyar Singh Associate Professor SCERT Jammu division on vocational education as per NEP 2020. The NEP 2020 stated that there will be no hard separation between vocational and academic streams. He highlighted the role of education in National development in addition to it he recapitulated our old design from a 10+2 system to 5+3+3+4.

                Mr. Ishfaq Anjum Samoon Sr. Academic officer of J&K SCERT divisional office Kashmir vehemently deliberated on local handicrafts and handloom. He highlighted the role of the handicraft sector in being the backbone of the J and K economy, being economically sustainable and more labor-intensive, and less capital-intensive in nature. They provide a spectrum of employment opportunities to the local youth and offer a safety net against unemployment and drug abuse. The third session was taken by Ms. Shaloo Sharma vocational instructor Govt. ITI Jammu. She talked about Fulkari a traditional art which is folk embroidery of Punjab. She highlighted the use of silk yarn used in fabrics composed of color stitches which have got popularity all over India. Mr. Abeshik bada lecturer Govt. Polytechnic College Jammu gave a session on Basohli Painting art painting. He highlighted how prolific are the Basohli paintings. He showed famous paintings of Basohli through his PPT. The last session of day four was taken by Mr. Vinod Wanchu District Horticulture officer Jammu on the topic of food preservation. He highlighted the process of imparting training to people, and how at a small-scale unit various types of foods can be preserved.   

Madam Arivindar Kour presented her views on the idea of vocational education in her valedictory lecture. She thanked all the participants for participating and making the program a grand success. The next session was taken by Mr. Kapil Tandon teaching assistant school of hospitality and tourism management University of Jammu. He highlighted Tourism and hospitality as a carrier for students. He extensively explained tourism also contributes to National integration by supporting local handicrafts and cultural endeavors. It also contributes to the growth of international awareness of our cultural heritage. After the post-lunch session, there was a presentation by the participants, and the feedback was conducted in a very interactive mode on the stage. The participants asked for such type of orientation programs in other areas in the future. It is hoped that knowledge gained during this 05-day program will be utilized by participants in practicality so that students can benefit which will fulfill the objective of this orientation program.
