Three days Shina Script Learning Program Organised by the Department of Education in Languages in collaboration with the Department of Art & Vocational Education SCERT-Kashmir Division at Boys Higher Secondary School Dawar Gurez District Bandipora. Dr. Shabnam Head Department of Education in Language was dice in-charge and as a program coordinator, I was present at Boys Higher Secondary School Dawar Gurez during three days program.
The Program was inaugurated by Principal Secretary of Education Mr.B.K.Singh through the SCERT Zoom Link. Director SCERT and Chairman JK BOSE Veena Pandita presided over the function through a video link from her Jammu Office. Masaud Samoon Former Divisional Commissioner and Ex-Director of School Education Kashmir was the Guest of Honor.
The Principal Secretary of School Education appreciated the efforts of SCERT in organizing the event at a remote location like GUREZ and highlighted the importance of the Mother's tongue in the teaching-learning process as envisaged in the New Educational Policy NEP-2020. He Complimented SCERT for organizing the program in respect of an ancient language like SHINA which is spoken in a wide geographical area and has faced neglect so far. He appreciated the efforts of SCERT in this direction and desired textbooks for classes 1st to 3rd may be developed expeditiously in the next coming months so that this language comes at par with other regional languages. He emphasized that the development of textbooks for other classes up to 10th class SHINA language may be taken in hand.
Director SCERT Prof. Veena Pandita gave a detailed background about the action taken so far by JK BOSE in developing textbooks in the SHINA language from classes 4th to 6th in line with the earlier policy and the efforts afoot for further developing textbooks in this language. She appreciated the team of Education in language SCERT for taking the initiative of removing difficulties in the teaching of the SHINA language and pledged support for further efforts in this direction.
Masaud Samoon Ex-Divisional Commissioner and Ex-Director of School Education Kashmir provided background about the SHINA language and its historical importance the problems facing the language at different levels and steps needed to be taken for its uplift in accordance with the NEP 2020. He requested expeditions development of textbooks in the SHINA language by SCERT and technical and financial support for the development of the SHINA Dictionary along with the android app. as early as possible.
The goal of the program was to prepare about thirty -30- master trainers who could in turn be available locally for teaching the SHINA Script to the teaching Community at large enabling them to be effective teachers for native students of the SHINA language. Mr. Masaud Samoon Ex-Divisional Commissioner and EX-Director of School Education Kashmir, Mr Mohammad Niyaz Mapnoo Ex-ZEO, and Mr. Bilal Ahmad Sheikh Coordinator NGO Pratham acted as resource persons during three days of the offline program at Boys Higher Secondary School Dawar Gurez- 12 days online training course Scheduled from 6th October to 17th October 2021 through SCERT-Zoom Link as follow up to three days offline program was successfully completed.
